Kolomoki Mounds State ParkTo the southwest of Dawson, this park is an important archaeological site dating to 800 A.D. Within its nearly 1,300 acres are seven mounds built by the Swift and Weeden Island Indians in the 12th and 13th centuries. The temple mound is one of the largest east of the Mississippi River and is Georgia's oldest temple mound. A museum vividly depicts this ancient Indian culture. Call 229-931-0001 for more information. Terrell County CourthouseLocated in Dawson, the courthouse was built in 1892 in "high Victorian" architecture. One of many attractions on the tour of homes in Terrell County.Windsor HotelThis restored 1892 hotel is the crown jewel of the Americus National Register Historic District, and a true Souther castle. The Windsor has hosted guest such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, John Dillinger and even a prince of Morocco. Drummer Boy MuseumCivil War uniforms and artifacts are on display along with a diorama of the former Andersonville Prison site.
